Adult Swim's Premier Fresh Series of 2025 Earns a Significant Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.

Last October, Adult Swim saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the network launched a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, evoking a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. At a time often characterized by dark humor, this show's sincerity found an audience and helped it become a breakout hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for a further two seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The series follows three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the fans of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Executive Acclaim

The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who found the show and championed its uniquely offbeat sensibility.

"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. It offers something unexpectedly cozy about watching this lovable family go about their simple existence.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to move the comedy genre beyond its long-running layer of irony. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

The Path Forward

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially be part of that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences additional episodes to enjoy the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
