Game Coverage

21 mins: Intense Play as Each Side Battle

21 mins: The Broncos advance to halfway and nearly pierce the defensive line via Reece Walsh and Gehamat Shibasaki on the left flank. Another superb kick from Reynolds on the last tackle maintains the Broncos' pressure. Over three plays they remain on the front foot, but some quick passes free the speedy Hughes, and when he's brought down on the defensive 40m line, a six-again is awarded for holding the player. Melbourne are now in rhythm, and Warbrick breaks through the line, followed by Coates making a sprint – only for Walsh to catch him high with a shoulder! Is that a sin-binning? No, rules Grant Atkins, because Coates was dropping low. Walsh is placed on report regardless, and the Storm continue their attack.

19 mins: Cameron Munster Leads Storm Attack

19 mins: Cameron Munster is busy as the Storm charge at speed down to their 30-meter line. Down the right, Jahrome Hughes kicks high, Katoa rushes up, but in the marking contest, the second-rower knocks on, and Brisbane finally get a breather.

18th Minute: Melbourne Apply Pressure on Broncos

18 mins: Melbourne perform a perfect set from the kickoff and put significant force on Mariner with the last tackle kick. Once more, the Brisbane fail to reach the midfield in reply, and Reynolds is forced to boot it deep to keep his team in touch.

17 mins: Injury for Melbourne

17 mins: There's a setback for Melbourne. Howarth has been replaced due to a groin injury. Tyran Wishart is entering in his position.

CONVERTED TRY! Storm 12-6 Brisbane (Katoa, 15)

Brilliant, just brilliant. Following back-to-back restarts, the Broncos are flagging. From tackle three near the try line on the left, the Storm move the ball infield for a couple of passes before Hughes drops the ball onto his toe and the onrushing Katoa times his run to perfection to dive on the loose ball and stand to mark his team’s second try!

From slightly right of the uprights, Nick Meaney kicks his second goal.

12 mins: Melbourne Show Exciting Offense

12 mins: The Storm appear dynamic in offense. There’s speed from the play-the-ball, grunt from the forwards, and crisp hands from the outside players. A threatening move concludes with a high kick to the left side that is knocked on by Reece Walsh and results in a penalty to the Storm for an obstruction on Xavier Coates. The Storm reject the penalty goal and get to work under the posts. There’s a six again – and another – as Cameron Munster weaves side to side.

10th Minute: Tense Action

10 mins: Stefano Utoikamanu has delivered as promised early and his run from the kickoff allows first Grant, then Papenhuyzen, to dart from dummy-half. Jahrome Hughes kicks from 40 meters and Reece Walsh secures the bomb on his 10-meter line. The Broncos carry reduced thrust this drive and get lucky on the last when Hunt’s pass to Adam Reynolds goes to ground. Not to worry, the veteran halfback delivers a great kick to turn Coates around and makes the Melbourne wing to sprint from his try line. The Brisbane are too eager with their chase, hitting the Queenslander with a high tackle, and Melbourne can gain attacking field position.

SUCCESSFUL TRY! Storm 6-6 Brisbane (Meaney, 8)

From the scrum, Stefano Utoikamanu drives hard to the 20-meter line. Next, from quick ball from the play-the-ball, all of Melbourne’s big names get a touch as they move it out to the right hand side until Nick Meaney cuts inside, runs at an angle at serious pace, and breaks through a flimsy defensive line to score for an instant reply!

Meaney recovers to kick the goal. We have a shootout!

7 mins: Teams Exchange Sets

7th minute: The two teams trade cautious plays either side of halfway, but then the Broncos look to expand on their left side, only to fail to hit Shibasaki with the pass. Warbrick rushes up and earns a knock on for his efforts.

5 mins: Dream Start for Brisbane

5th minute: That is the absolute dream start for Brisbane, taking the lead before Melbourne have even touched the ball, in an offensive play led by both Payne Haas and Walsh. The Storm might be somewhat frustrated at Grant Atkins blowing such an early penalty, but they were soundly opened by the rapid Brisbane offense.

CONVERTED TRY! Melbourne 0-6 Broncos (Deine Mariner, 3)

Following a long kick, Brisbane get to work. Melbourne concede a six-again for offside, and in no time the ball is in the red zone. Reece Walsh positions himself? Waiting on the right edge, attracting Howarth, holding his position, then someway offloading to Mariner on his wing. The outside back cuts infield, crosses the try line, then just, only just stays in the field of play as he moves to score beneath the goalposts.

A review occurs before Adam Reynolds dabs over the goal, but the Bunker confirms the referee's call. Accor Stadium is rocking to the sound of jubilant fans.

2 mins: Early Infringement

2nd minute: Corey Jensen, not Haas, makes the first hit-up of the night and Melbourne are up sharply… but only a few plays later the Melbourne give away the opening infringement of the game for Harry Grant impeding Payne Haas on the ground. Brisbane right away on the attack.

Kick-off!
