Russia attacked Ukrainian territory with aerial assaults overnight on Saturday and into Sunday morning, concentrating on the major western city of Lviv.

Neighboring country Poland deployed fighter jets to protect the security of Polish airspace, the Polish military announced. Allied Nato aircraft were also deployed.

Regional governor Maksym Kozytskyi reported two individuals were killed in attacks in the region, and an additional two injured.

In other developments, Russian forces again targeted energy infrastructure - and one was struck in an nocturnal assault on Zaporizhzhia region, where the mayor reported one person lost their life and more than 73,000 people were without electricity.

Military Response

The Russian assaults came shortly following a American representative indicated the US would endorse Ukraine launching deep strikes within Russia's borders.

"Our and partner nations' jets are operating in our airspace, while ground-based air defence and surveillance radars have been activated at maximum alert level," Poland's operational command stated.

At early morning, all of Ukraine was under air raid alerts following Ukrainian Air Force warnings of Russian missile and drone attacks.

Energy System Attacks

Russia has escalated its assaults against the country's power grid.

The city's administration local officials reported several districts - 43 miles from the border with Poland - had no power, adding that the city's air defence systems were actively involved in countering first a UAV and then a Russian missile attack.

As of morning hours, multiple areas were left without power and public transport was not operational, with authorities emphasizing that it was "unsafe to venture outdoors".

In Zaporizhzhia, Russia's overnight attack left "over seventy-three thousand users... without electricity", according to regional officials.

One person was fatally wounded, and nine injured, Fedorov confirmed.

A teenage female was one of those requiring hospital treatment, officials noted, releasing images depicting a partly destroyed apartment building and a burnt-out car from the site of the attack.

Regional Impact

Municipal transit in Ivano-Frankivsk, would "start running later than usual" on Sunday, its city administration announced.

The multiple strikes were part of Moscow's offensive against the entire nation during the night.

At around early morning, Ukrainian defense officials said the entire territory was facing danger of new missile strikes, following hours of air raid alerts and warnings of drone and missile attacks.

Territorial Control

Moscow's troops have taken control of the majority of Ukraine's eastern Donbas region, including key eastern cities.

Russian authorities presently holds around a fifth of Ukrainian territory, including the Crimea region, which it annexed in 2014.

Global Developments

In Russian territory, anti-aircraft systems destroyed 32 Ukrainian drones overnight, media outlets reported on Sunday.

Recently, a American diplomat said that the United States would back Ukraine conducting long-range operations inside Russian territories.

Meanwhile, a different NATO country - Lithuania - had to suspend flights briefly after objects were spotted.

Authorities suspended flights at its main international airport for several hours, before resuming operations at 04:50 on Sunday.

The airport's operator stated the flight suspensions and reroutings were "because of a potential stream of balloons approaching the aviation facility".
